Kumba

With the great help and support from our former Banga participant, Dr. Japhet Tabi Afuge, a group of 56 healthcare workers began the HIV education course in September 2009.  Participants from many different centers and professional backgrounds gathered at a local Presbyterian church in Kumba for the kickoff training.  Philip Atemnkeng (HIV & TB nurse, HIV/AIDS basic counselor), who works closely with Give Milk Stop AIDS, came to help during the kickoff meeting.

The closing workshop in January 2010 was made possible again with the help of Dr. Tabi and with the assistance of our Regional Representative, Dr. Roselyne Toby, who gave four informative and interactive presentations on ART, toxicity, resistance and adherence.

Furthermore, presentations were held by Dr. Nyenti, Dr. Tong, Mrs. Kidio and Dr. Tabi himself.  In addition to the great presenters, the participants also contributed extensively to the workshop with questions, lively discussions, and stimulating remarks.

Participant Feedback

“This is the first time that we, as healthcare workers from different healthcare centers, have gathered to discuss the difficulties in the care and treatment of patients living with HIV/AIDS with each other and to learn from each other’s experiences. Let us continue these group sessions in the future to discuss cases and to help each other to stay well informed”.
