The HIV[e]Education training program, with the country specific design, epidemiology modules and clinical cases was initiated in Indonesia in 2006. The epidemiology module was written by Dr Irwan Kosasi of the Ministry of Health and the first clinical cases were provided by Professor Samsuridjal Djauzi of the University of Jakarta.

In 2008 the Ministry of Health accredited HIV[e]Education for healthcare workers. The accreditation recognizes the certification provided by Health[e]Foundation to participants who successfully complete the blended learning cycle, which includes attendance of a kickoff meeting and then a closing workshop after completion of all modules.

The new translation of HIV[e]Education into Bahasa Indonesia was provided at a kickoff at the ICAAP Conference in Bali in August 2009.  Due to the majority of participants coming from Jakarta, the follow up workshop was held in November 2009 in Jakarta.  Immediately following the workshop, Health[e]Foundation began its first training in Manado in collaboration with the NEBA Foundation.  The HeF-Neba collaboration has just began its third training in Manado in March 2011.

With the country's many islands making travel costly and time-consuming, distance learning has proven a perfect tool for continuous medical education in Indonesia.

"I really like this model.  So simple, so we don't need to worry."
