Uganda TB Workshop June 209

Dr. van der Waals presenting a TB[e]Education certificate!

Uganda

Uganda was the first African country where the computer-based format of HIV[e]Education was instantly accepted as a useful and timely tool to train the many healthcare workers needed for rolling out the treatment program. The program was implemented efficiently and in a relatively short period of time.

In January 2004 a round-table conference with all stakeholders in the medical training field - the Ministry of Health, Makerere University, Mulago Hospital, the Joint Clinical Research Center (JCRC), The Aids Support Organization (TASO), Mildmay, Hospice Africa Uganda (HAU), Academic Alliance/Infectious Disease Institute, Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau (UCMB), and the WHO - were invited and informed about the possibilities of HIV[e]Education. Groups that planned to do the course immediately lined up.

The first pilot of the HIV[e]Education training was given during the JCRC's roll-out program in the eastern region. After evaluation, the program was also given to JCRC to start trainings in other regions.

From 2004 until now Health[e]Foundation has trained over 850 healthcare workers in Uganda and will continue to provide future trainings and to expand its reach through mentoring programs.

"Thank you for the opportunity you have given me and other health workers. I really appreciated the work you did in the workshop we had on 22 Jan 2010!"
