Basic Occupational Health Service
is now available for all participants

The seven modules of the new course Basic Occupational Health Service (BOHS) has been completed and the first BOHS-training will start in March 2012. In total seven modules have been written in collaboration with Prof. Frank van Dijk, Inge Varekamp and NSPOH.

This course is online available and accessible to participants of Health[e]Foundation.

The Basic Occupational Health Services are an application of occupational health by means of primary health care principles for workers who are underserved. Physical, ergonomic, chemical, biological and psychosocial hazards may affect the workers’ health.

They may lead to accidents or occupational and work-related diseases. These should be prevented and, when this is not possible, they should be diagnosed early and treated.

In order to do so, surveillance of the work environment and the workers’ health is necessary, together with education of the managers and the workers. Maintaining the workers’ work ability and health promotion can be added as new aims for the occupational health service (OHS).

Many regions and economic sectors lack regular occupational health services. Basic Occupational Health Services (BOHS) is a starting point for these area’s and economic sectors.

Future plan is to continue to spread the course and organize trainings together with the NSPOH to other middle -income countries.
