Project details / IAS Scientific Writing[e]Education
About this project
To promote and support scientific contributions to the International AIDS Society (IAS) Conferences on HIV Science and the International AIDS Conferences, the IAS, the Journal of the IAS (JIAS) and Health[e]Foundation offer a course – IAS Scientific Writing[e]Education – each year. The course was written by editors of the Journal of the IAS, an open-access platform for the publication of essential and innovative HIV/AIDS research.
One of the four modules, How to write a conference abstract, is a requirement for the IAS Abstract Mentor Programme for the conferences. The Abstract Mentor Programme aims to help young or less experienced researchers, mainly from resource-limited settings, to improve their abstracts before submitting them in order to increase the chance of their work being presented at conferences. The mandatory module presents information on the general requirements and considerations regarding abstract writing and an understanding of the criteria used in the selection process. Upon completion of this module, participants receive a code with which they can apply for the IAS Abstract Mentor Programme.
Three other modules are available in this course: on writing and submitting a research manuscript and how to navigate the editorial and peer review process. The full course is free for IAS members. The module How to write a conference abstract is freely available for all. To promote contributions from Eastern Europe and Central Asia, the mandatory module is also available in Russian since 2016 thanks to AFEW International.
