How we work / Introduction

We educate people from different countries. They come from different cultures and have different backgrounds, ages, health issues and questions. Our participants include adolescents, pregnant mothers, community workers, medical doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals.

We use several methods to deliver our services, so that we can tailor the course or project to the specific needs of the target group and their situation. A course or project can consist of several modules that cover a range of topics and use different learning approaches. Our e-learning platform and m-health solutions enable us to scale-up our impact and reach (almost) everyone.

Collaboration and partnerships

We never work alone when developing and implementing courses and services. Health[e]Foundation has a global network of experts who write and update the content of the modules. To enhance sustainability and maintain local support, Health[e]Foundation forms cooperative partnerships with local, well-established organizations and stakeholders in countries where it works. Check out the list of partners who we worked with so far and read more about how you can partner with us!

How we work / Blended group learning

Health[e]Foundation uses the blended training model to train groups. A blended learning program consists of a training period, followed by certification, and continuous medical education through annual updates of the course content.

Usually, we start with a kick-off workshop, followed by a self-study period, including pre- and post-tests, and, then, a follow-up workshop. The number of workshops can be adjusted, depending on the needs of the training group. Participants receive distant learning support: they are encouraged to interact with their peers through the participant portal and to seek e-tutor support through their personalized e-learning accounts.

Usually, 25-50 participants attend the kick-off workshop . Local experts give guest lectures to ensure that the information is understood in the local context and to facilitate networking. During the kick-off workshop, each participant receives a personal username and a password. In locations where the internet is not always accessible, participants are given a USB stick or a tablet that contains the complete e-learning course. This guarantees that each participants has offline access to the whole course. The Health[e]Foundation team explains the course and demonstrates how to use the e-learning platform. During the workshop, the participants have time to familiarize themselves with the e-learning course. All workshops are designed to be as interactive as possible, through interactive presentations, electronic quizzes, ice-breakers and discussions.

Following the kick-off workshop, participants have a fixed self-study period to complete the modules of the e-learning course. Every course consists of self-study modules written by renowned experts in the field. Each module starts with a pre-test and ends with a post-test in order to evaluate the learning curve of the participants. When applicable, a course includes a module on local epidemiology, local clinical cases and videos. References, a glossary and copies of international and national guidelines are also available as part of the course.

Participants can study the course online via internet, or offline through their USB stick or tablet. The distance learning part ensures that participants can study at their own pace and time.

After the self-study period, participants gather again for a follow-up workshop. This workshop addresses key topics of the course in a collaborative setting, with experts as guest speakers. The agenda includes lectures; interactive discussions; and individual and group exercises that are focused on the participants’ needs and local circumstances. We evaluate each individual’s knowledge gain and conduct monitoring and evaluation of the training course overall.

Even after the follow-up workshop participants continue to have life-long access to the course. They can access the regularly updated course content and stay members of Health[e]Foundation. They are encouraged to continue to work on their professional development with our courses.

The workshops and online training bring for me so many uses: I can update myself with no limitation, everywhere, any time, so I can help myself, my clients and also my colleagues by this acquired knowledge. Thank you Health[e]Foundation! Participant Health[e]Families, Dessie, Ethiopia (October 2017)

How we work / Online group e-learning

Health[e]Foundation offers online group training. A group of participants receive an invitation that includes the group’s code. Each participant uses the code to register via our website for a personal online account.

After registration, participants receive access to a specific e-learning course and have a fixed self-study period to complete the course modules. Every course consists of self-study modules written by renowned experts in the field. Each module starts with a pre-test and ends with a post-test in order to evaluate the participants’ learning curve. Health[e]Foundations courses are available for participants who only want to study online. Participants can register online for a personal account via our website, either for access to all of our free courses and modules; or, after payment of a fee, to our premium courses.

After registration, participants receive life-long access to the e-learning course. They can study the course modules online, whenever they want and wherever they are. Today during the workshop I learned so many new things, for example the presentation about respectful maternity care. I will use this new gained information in my daily practice because then I can give the best care to (expecting) mothers. Participant Health[e]Families, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (July 2018)

How we work / M-health

Health[e]Foundation offers m-health services to educate, and support, communities about maternal health and antenatal care. M-health is an innovative health technology: information is sent to the individual’s mobile device (phone, tablet). Mobile technology is a promising way of caring for people who live in the most hard to reach areas.
