News / HIV[e]Education in Kano, Nigeria
Just before the holiday weeks of December, two new group of enthusiastic participants started the HIV[e]Education and Treat’n Care[e]Education course in Kano, Nigeria. In total 93 participants attended the one-day kick-off workshop. With an inspirational talk by managing director Nadine Pakker, an overview of the epidemiology of HIV in Nigeria by Prof Abdulrazaq Habib and after a demonstration of the e-learning platform, the participants were ready to start their self-learning period.
At the 9th of April Health[e]Foundation returned to Kano to conduct two follow-up workshops of two days in collaboration with the Bayero University of Kano. The workshop was filled with interesting presentations by local experts on a variety of topics: mental health and HIV, ART toxicity, nutrition and HIV, HIV and TB. The interactive activities and exercises concerning communication and adherence were a great success.
At the end of the week 89 participants passed the post-tests of all e-learning modules and successfully completed the course. We are again very happy with the efficient collaboration with our partners Dr. Hamza and Prof. Habib and together we will explore new funding opportunities to assure a quick return to Nigeria and train many more health care providers that are wait-listed for the HIV trainings.
